What is Bioheat?

Bioheat is an industry accepted term for blends of standard heating oil and pure biodiesel. The diagram below depicts Bioheat blends of B2, B5 and B20.

Bioheat Benefits

  • Domestically produced - Bioheat is made right here at home, helping to support local jobs and reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

  • Improves air quality – The use of standard heating oil produces toxic air emissions like carbon monoxide, particulates, and smog forming compounds. Bioheat reduces all of these emissions, improving the air quality around your home.

  • Requires no modification to your existing oil burner or tank – anyone that heats their home with heating oil can make the switch today! Bioheat can blend directly with any existing oil in your tank.

Member Testimonials

"I have been using biofuel for several years now with no noticeable difference inside. My furnace serviceman had told me 'no problem to switch and in fact it will just burn cleaner.' He reported after servicing the nozzle that it was clean and did not need to be serviced. I feel proud when the truck pulls in front of my house with the biofuel mural on it. My neighbors can see that I am doing something to better our country and our world."
-Tom, Coatesville, PA

"The most surprising change for me after switching to biofuel this year was that my house no longer smells like oil.  In the past I always knew when a delivery was made by the odor that would linger for days. My house generally feels cleaner with biofuel."
-Marianne, Glenside, PA

Nationally Tested

Brookhaven National Laboratory, established in New York in 1947, is a national lab under the U.S. Department of Energy. In 2004 Brookhaven completed an extensive study on the use of Bioheat. According to one of the researchers, C.R. Krishna, the results were extremely positive. “The heating efficiency was about the same, and we saw a significant decrease in sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions,” said Krishna. “We also think we will see some long-term benefits in terms of maintenance costs.”
