Georgia Mae has been with The Energy Co-op since March 2019, first as a Marketing and Communications Intern during her final undergraduate semester at Temple University and now as our Member Services Associate.\u00a0 She is currently a Master in Public Policy student at Temple and lives in Fairmount with her small orange cat, Peach.\u00a0 Our Heating Oil Manager, Bethany Bender, sat down with her to help introduce her to The Energy Co-op community:<\/p>\n
What do you do at The Energy Co-op?<\/strong><\/p>\n I am the member services associate, so I\u2019m usually the voice on the other side of the phone when members call. I sign people up for new services and answer questions about our services and I even dabble in operations assistance and data management. I also work on our monthly newsletter and other member messages, write and coordinate our blog posts, and manage our social media presence.<\/p>\n What\u2019s the best part about working here?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Alexandra\u2019s coffee is very<\/em> good. I like that we\u2019re a small group and almost all women.\u00a0 I also like our open concept office- it makes it easy to consult with co-workers and ask questions. And of course, it\u2019s nice being in Center City. I love the mission, too.<\/p>\n What does sustainability mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n Personally, I think the most important thing we can do for the environment is switch to renewable energy.\u00a0 My interests and education are in environmental policy and the need to combat climate change. I try to limit single use items as much as possible and I recycle. But I think we need to make big, structural change.<\/p>\n Any standout moments at The Energy Co-op?<\/strong><\/p>\n Writing my first blog post was really fun. I also really liked tabling at the Philly Science Festival. The 40th<\/sup> anniversary celebration in November was also really great! A lot of people put significant time and effort into making it a successful event.<\/p>\n Anything coming up that you\u2019re excited for?<\/strong><\/p>\n I\u2019m going to graduate with a Master of Public Policy from Temple in May (on my birthday!). And I\u2019m excited for the holidays.<\/p>\n Favorite restaurant in the city?<\/strong><\/p>\n Christie\u2019s Deli at 19th<\/sup> and Spring Garden. Their spicy chicken salad is amazing and the owners are very nice. There are always a ton of neighborhood regulars in the deli (like me), and they make excellent breakfast sandwiches.<\/p>\n Any interesting anecdotes?<\/strong><\/p>\n Laughs <\/em>I\u2019ll bite. When I was 9, I was in an indie movie. I had been taking acting classes, and I went to an audition and got the part. I missed 4 weeks of fourth grade.
