Community and Civic Engagement

Part five of a five-week series on cooperative values

Welcome to part five of The Energy Co-op’s Co-op Month Series where each week, we reflected on five fundamental cooperative values!

In this final week, we focus on the value of community and the important role civic engagement plays in enabling us to be active members of our local and global communities.

The world is a lot smaller than it used to be! Community can transcend physical space allowing people around the globe feel a sense of belonging through shared experiences, interests, aspirations, and more; not just location. This means our decisions as individuals, companies, and governments also have impacts beyond the communities in which we live and operate.

As stakeholders of a democratic organization, each Energy Co-op member understands the value of participating in the democratic process and advocates through their membership for a future in which all Pennsylvanians can thrive. This presidential election, be sure to vote to make your voice heard. Voting is an important individual responsibility for each member of our national community, and every vote makes a difference. These last few weeks, we highlighted five important cooperative values – innovation, sustainability, transparency, equity, and community. All of us here in Pennsylvania have the power to affect a future that aligns with our shared values. This is how even the broadest communities are shaped—one vote at a time.
