Renewable Natural Gas
Switch to low-carbon, frack-free Renewable Natural Gas today.
For a more sustainable Pennsylvania and a more stable climate.
Methane gas is a natural byproduct of the decomposition of waste, such as wastewater or landfill trash.
Methane is a potent greenhouse gas (roughly 30 times as potent as carbon dioxide). It is usually captured and “flared” (i.e. burned) by waste-facility owners which reduces it to carbon dioxide but wastes its energy content.
Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) is produced when waste facilities (i.e. landfills, wastewater treatment plants, etc) capture and supply methane gas to users who would otherwise use conventionally produced, fossil-based natural gas. This reduces the demand for fracked natural gas and reduces the lifecycle carbon impact of their natural gas usage.
By switching to RNG from The Energy Co-op, you will continue to receive safe and reliable gas service through PECO’s distribution system, but with the added benefit of supporting a cleaner and more sustainable Pennsylvania. For every unit of gas you use, we purchase a unit of RNG from waste facilities. This reduces demand for fracked, fossil-based natural gas and reduces your carbon footprint.
The Energy Co-op uses the power of community to provide members with 100% renewable electricity, renewable natural gas and affordable, transparently-priced heating oil.
